University of Queensland Data Centre Generator

St Lucia, Queensland

This project consisted the supply and installation of a new 1.1MW generator and associated bulk fuel tank to serve three data centres located within the Prentice Building. A new outdoor generator main switchboard, cable management and new and existing sub-mains formed part of this project.

The new generator was installed to replace the existing generator and provide additional capacity for anticipated future load increases. N&P Contracting was engaged directly to the University

of Queensland and assumed the role of head contractor.

With the three data centres critical to the operation of the University of Queensland’s many campus’, the first challenge was to develop a methodology to ensure the reliability of standby power was not compromised and due to spatial limitations the new generator had to be installed in the same location as the existing rental generator. This meant the whole operation had to be precisely planned and implemented without failure in a very contracted time frame.

With our extensive experience in dealing with sensitive infrastructure and our attention to detail, N&P Contracting provided UQ with peace of mind that the three data centres maintained standby power for the duration of the project.
